Monarch Academy Public Charter School Teacher Named Charter School Educator of the Year

Glen Burnie, Md.—Monarch Academy teacher, Rob Noble, was selected the Charter School Educator of the Year by the Maryland Charter School Network. Noble was honored at the Eighth Annual Maryland Charter School Conference. An awards ceremony celebrating innovation, passion and success was a conference highlight, celebrating the achievements of charter school administrators, educators, and school of the Year.

Monarch Academy Holds Informational Sessions and Open Houses

GLEN BURNIE, Md.—Monarch Academy Public Charter School in Anne Arundel County invites families to tour the school during informational sessions and open houses January through April. The evening informational sessions will feature parent testimonials, student work, tours and question-and-answer sessions, while the morning open houses will feature question-and-answer sessions and tours during the school day. Fifth and sixth grade students will conduct the tours during both events.

Maurine E. Larkin Appointed Principal of New Anne Arundel County Charter School

GLEN BURNIE, Md.—Monarch Academy Public Charter School, a new Anne Arundel County charter school that serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade, hired Maurine E. Larkin as principal. Larkin was principal of two Anne Arundel County elementary schools before joining Monarch Academy, which will open Aug. 24, 2009, to its first class of 195 boys and girls in kindergarten, first grade and fifth grade.

GLEN BURNIE, Md.—Monarch Academy Public Charter School, an Anne Arundel County public charter school focusing on an enriched and rigorous academic curriculum that integrates the arts and technology, announced today that it received a $550,000 grant from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) for the start-up funds to open its school in the fall.

GLEN BURNIE, Md.—Anne Arundel County School System said "yes" to Monarch Academy opening its first charter school, providing county families with a new choice for public school education. Monarch Academy Public Charter School will open Aug. 25, 2009 to students in kindergarten, first grade and fifth grade, and the enrollment process begins now to fill the future Glen Burnie, Md., school with up to 195 students.
